The Estevez/Sheen Family This is one family that some fans might not even realize is related. That’s because father Martin Sheen changed his name when he was first starting out. He has recently stated that he regrets that decision – but it didn’t do him any harm. Martin Sheen has starred in some of the biggest films and TV shows in the last 40 years. Older son Charlie Sheen has had his much-publicized troubles but also boasts an extensive filmography. Then there is Emilio, who decided to use the family name – Estevez. There is even a daughter, Renee, who has featured in a number of minor roles as well. The Bridges Family Lloyd Bridges was a much-loved actor who started off starring in films in the 1940s before landing major TV roles in the 1950s and 60s. But it was his role in Airplane! In 1980 he reinvented his go-to role as a comedy parody actor. He received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1994. Sons Jeff and Beau both went into the family business as well. Both brothers starred in The Fabulous Baker Boys but enjoyed incredible individual success as well and are still working in their 70s and 80s. Grandson Jordan Bridges was also bitten by the acting bug, most famously appearing in the TV show Rizzoli & Isles. The Coppola Family When you are talking about Hollywood family dynasties, you cannot get much bigger than the extended Coppola family. Francis Ford Coppola was one of the original Hollywood auteurs of the 1970s and directed classics such as The Godfather and Apocalypse Now. The direct descendants of the Coppola family have been nominated for around 20 Academy Awards and include the likes of Nicolas Cage, Talia Shire, and Jason Schwartzman. After a less than well-released appearance in The Godfather III, daughter Sofia Coppola has also forged a very successful directing career. Image The Douglas Family Kirk and Michael are probably the greatest ever Hollywood father and son. Kirk was a true Tinseltown royalty and featured in hundreds of roles in a career that spanned almost 80 years. He surprisingly never won an Academy Award but was one of the most famous actors of all time. Son Michael took on the mantle very early on and has won a whole host of awards for some very famous roles. He also produced classics such as One Flew Over the Cuckoo Nest. Other members of the Douglas family also went into the film business, while mother Diana Dill also appeared in Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. The Smith Family Many of the families profiled here are from a bygone era of Hollywood royalty. But the dynasties are still being produced – with the Smith family a perfect example. Will Smith followed a successful rap career with The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, before landing some of the biggest film roles of the last 25 years. Wife Jada Pinkett has also appeared in some very big TV shows and films over the years and now the next generation of Smiths are becoming headline acts. Both Jaden and Willow have already starred in a string of blockbuster films and have also carried on the musical tradition started by Will back in the 1980s.
