Maurice was born on the 2nd of October 1932 in Washington DC. From the age of 14, Mauri used to play baseball at a semi-professional level. During his school days at Cardozo High School, Maurice used to play football, basketball, and baseball as well. In his junior, senior, and sophomore years, Maurice was titled All-City player as he used to play three different sports. After graduating, Mauri Wills spent eight years in Minor leagues, and eventually, he was selected by Detroit Tigers in 1959 but later he was returned to Dodgers after spring training. Mauri joined Dodgers in 1958 and later he went on to play for other teams as well.

Maurice was survived by his wife Carla, and his children, Barry Micki, Bump, Anita, Susan, and Wendi. Mauri was 89 years old at the time of his death and he was at his house as reported by many of his family members and Dodgers as well. Until now the cause of death has not been revealed by any of the Dodgers or the family members, it is been expected that he passed away because of aging but no sources have clarified it.
