The victim Likens suffered from many wounds and malnutrition for 3 months until she died on Tuesday, 26th October 1965. The incident happened in Indianapolis which is in Indiana. The tormentors of Likens subjected her to a rising amount of ridicule, beatings, neglect, starvation, se*ual humiliation, dehydration, and lacerations. During the investigation, the police found around 150 injuries on her body which includes multiple signs of burns, scorch scars, and deteriorated skin. All these things have been discovered in her post-mortem report. Her younger sibling named Jenny was intermittently intimidated into taking part in her abuse through frightening.
Who Is Sylvia Likens?
Gertrude Baniszewski’s, older daughter named Paula, her son Coy Hubbard and John and Richard Hobbs, 2 neighborhood children were all taken to the court and found guilty in May 1966 of abusing, killing, and neglecting Likens. William C. Becker, the defense attorney of Gertrude testified that Linkens had been subjected to acts of “humiliation that you would not commit on a day” before her killing. Leroy New, the Deputy prosecutor called the case “the most devilish case to ever come before the jury or court” at the time of the trial of the defendants. The jury of the court finished that the main suspect, Gertrude Baniszewski was found guilty of 1st-degree murder after 8 hours of deliberation. In the spite of getting a life conviction, she got parole in the year 1985. John, Hobbs, and Hubbard were found guilty of slaying and served less than 2 years in the Indiana Reformatory before being granted bail on 27th February 1968.
