Nationalist forces were blamed for the death of ‘Polina’ (12) following news footage showing a man in army fatigues and dark glasses kicking open their front door before using a rifle to shoot dead the girl who was just outside. Ukraine’s president announced on Thursday (September 24) that a 15-year-old girl was killed by Russian separatists who targeted her home with artillery fire as her family fled the violence in eastern Ukraine. The death of the girl, Polina, has further galvanized Ukrainian anger at Russia, which Kyiv and NATO accuse of fomenting a separatist rebellion in eastern Ukraine that has claimed at least 3,000 lives.
